Autumn Transition...Shop Update

Hello...hello....hello....I have been absent from blogging for so long it feels very empty here. My time has gone to filling up the shop with some fantastic pieces instead of blogging....I really need to learn to do both.

I've Got The "I'm Sick Of Winter Blues"

I am really sick of winter. I hate being cold, even when I add layer upon layer of clothes until they are surrounding my body to the point I can't move, like a child in a too small snowsuit, I am still cold!

I hate the snow. It only looks pretty while it is drifting through the sky. Landing into softly billowing piles of pristine white cloud-like structures on every object it covers. But soon it is dirty and gray lying on the side of the road, pushed high in piles in every parking lot, and staying around well past the time its welcome is worn out.

I've definately got the "I'm sick of winter blues especially when the weather man is predicting 8-10 inches of snow overnight......please winter, I've had enough, go away!

That has been my mantra the last few weeks, I find myself repeating it over and over in my head. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.....Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.....Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Now that it is fully ingrained in my consciousness I am starting to feel its power.

I have had a bump in the road of life but the path ahead is starting to look smoother. Let's celebrate by looking at some great spring-like outfits to brighten up any cloudy day.

Tips For Removing Stains From Washables

When one loves vintage clothing like I do, you need to have an aresonal of stain removal tricks up your sleeve.
Here are a few that come from 1968 via the Rich Sisters of Rich Bible Church.

Deodorants
Sponge area with white vinegar. If stain remains, soak with denatured alcohol. Wash with detergent in the hottest water safe for fabric.

Grease, Oil, Tar
Method 1: Use powder or chalk absorbents to remove as much grease as possible. Pretreat with detergent or non-flammable dry cleaning solvent, or liquid shampoo. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric, using plenty of detergent.
Method 2: Rub spot with lard and sponge with a non-flammable dry cleaning solvent. Wash in hottest water and detergent safe for fabric.

Perspiration
Sponge fresh stain with ammonia: old stain with vinegar. Pre-soak in cold or warm water. Rinse. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric. If fabric is yellowed, use bleach. If stain still remains, dampen and sprinkle with meat tenderizer, or pepsin. Let stand 1 hour. Brush off and wash. For persistent odor, sponge with colorless mouthwash.

Blood
Pre-soak in cold or warm water at least 30 minutes. If stain remains, soak in lukewarm ammonia water (3 tablespoons ammonia per gallon water). Rinse. If stain remains, work in detergent, and wash, using bleach sage for fabric.

Long Time No See...But I Have Some Great News...

It has again been way too long since my last posting. It seems to be the story of my blogging life, doesn't it?

I may not have been writing up a storm but I have been shopping up a storm.
I recently purchased seventy-six, yes I said seventy-six, dresses at one estate sale. She was a former beauty contestant winner in the 1930's and she married well, if you know what I mean.
The dresses are by the likes of Anne Fogarty, Harvey Berin designed by Karen Stark, Geoffrey Beene and Jerry Gilden, plus more fabulous quality frocks! Along with the dresses, I was able to bring home over 30 hats, shoes and purses too.
Today I found some new old stock Marimekko bed linens still in their original boxes. These would make a perfect holiday present for any vintage lover.

I have been super busy this fall as evidenced by my lack of blogging. Letting Go...Starting With Emilio Pucci

I have decided that I am going to let go of a few pieces of my "most hoarded" vintage collection. It is making me hyperventilate a little just to think about doing it, let alone actually doing it!

I will start with my matching set of Emilio Pucci for Formfit Rogers lingerie. These carefully hoarded pieces have been in my collection for quite a few years. The set consists of a fabulous slip dress with a built-in underwire bra and a matching pair of panties.

Letting go is good for you, right?

New fashions for the back to school crowd have always been important. Girls from eleven to nineteen will make the grade with two-piece dresses this fall. They can be worn with a sweater on campus or with a blouse either on the campus or in town. The swing skirts are comfortable and flattering. Colors this fall will be cinnamon brown or bronze green. Plaids will also be popular.

This is the forecast for the fall of 1937 according to Country Gentleman magazine.

The Prevailing Mode In Fashion For The Summer Of 1935

According to the June-July 1935 issue of Rural Progress Magazine weaves vie in summer popularity with prints. The wide varity of designs were created expressly to achieve the utmost smartness in both prints and weaves.

Number 3078-This smart little cape dress with its three-quarter sleeves, is very practical.

Number 3030- Here's one of those attractive and useful little one-piece model dresses of linen-like cotton print.

Number 2268-It's slim and graceful and is so easily sewn.

Number 2875-A charming caped model designed to flatter the larger figure. The caped shoulder are delightfully cool.

Number 3173-Just the sort of thing you need for hot days in town! It is made so easily and is predded in a jiffy!

Number 2858-A simple day dress of printed cotton and just the easiest thing in the world to fashion.

Number 2938-This slim cotton print dress is the softly tailored type, favored by smart women. It has the raglan shoulder effect, quite becoming to the average figure.

Number 516-Could anything be more fetching than little sister and brother in these cunning togs?

Number 3033-Here's looking at you in the loveliest frock of the season, a charmingly simple evening dress of embroidered organdie which achieves distinction without effort. The scalloped ruffle front and back, and the panel of the skirt ending in a point at the lower edge are the simple but effective features which convert just another party frock into something of a creation.

Each one of these patterns could be ordered for 15 cents except for number 3033, it was 25 cents.

I have been having a love affair...there I said it...it is out in the open.
I know that the allure is just physical...the warm and sultry, the blue of the sea and the sky, the colors and textures....but I don't care.
I am firmly in love....with Hawaiian clothing!

Culottes! Smartness & Comfort

From the pages of a Country Gentleman magazine dated June, 1936.

Culottes! Did I hear someone mention culottes? Of course I did, and you are probably hearing about them and seeing them as much as I am these days. If you are interested in smartness as well as comfort for active and spectator sports, you simply must have one of these new divided skirts. Of course, if you are very conservative, you can make this new sports frock with a plain skirt and pleats in the front and back, instead of divided. The blouse of the two-piece dress has an action back. By this I mean a deep pleat that gives plenty of room to swing a tennis racket. I am making mine in a lovely rust color cotton broadcloth that looks something like Shantung, and the buttons are of bright green composition, that will stand many launderings. I also am going to put a handkerchief of the green in the pocket. Here's to happy sporting days!

I was flipping through a new to me Country Gentleman magazine dated April, 1938, when I found a fantastic offer from Wrigley's Doublemint Gum. The caption reads picture yourself in this new Schiaparelli Double Mint gum scarf dress from Paris. Made available to you from Double Mint Gum in Simplicity pattern 2740.

The dress ties scarf can be worn as an apron or take it off the dress and use as a handy platochek, or headscarf. When in need of a bag, knot the scarf-apron thusly. More double duty! Shown worn as an ascot at the neckline, this is a double-mint dress!

Family, Friends & Fireworks

We had a blast at our annual gathering to celebrate the 4th of July even though it was blistering hot. We moved the tables and chairs around to catch the shade as the sun crossed the sky throughout the day. Along with catching glimpses of the adults wiggling their toes in the kiddie pool, slipping ice cubes down an unspecting target's shirt and lots of ice cold drinks in coolers scattered around the yard we managed to stay reasonably cool.

My grandaughter sported berry stained lips most of the day from sneaking off to rob sweet blackberries and raspberries off the vines near the garden. Who cares about jam anyway?

As the sun began to set, everyone settled into a cozy spot to await the firework display to light up the nightime sky. No one was disappointed with the spectacular show! I used a "fireworks" setting on my camera for the first time and was treated to some interesting results.
I can't imagine a better way to spend the day than with friends, family and fireworks!

I am a faithful reader of Woman's World Magazine. I enjoy their recipes, crossword puzzles, and positive affirmations. But, the most enjoyable part of this weekly magazine for me is the practical health, home, and beauty tips they have packed into every issue.

As the proprietor of a vintage clothing business, safe storage of woolens and stain removal are issues that I deal with every day. Recently I found several "tips" on these very concerns on the pages of Women's World magazine. I have not yet had a chance to try out the suggestions but I want to share them with you and I will report on my successes or failures. I would like to hear back from you, the readers of my blog, as to whether you give them a thumbs up or a thumbs down too.

The tips:
1. Moth-Proof your woolens!
Protect your sweaters during the warm weather by wrapping them in a few sheets of newspaper and sealing with tape. The paper will keep out moths and absorb moisture, keeping woolens fresh until fall.

2. Remove underarm stains from shirts!
Don't let stains ruin your favorite white shirt. Crush 4 uncoated white aspirin tablets and mix with 1 tsp. cream of tartar. Add enough warm water to make a paste, then work into the stain with an old toothbrush and let sit 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. The salicylic acid in the aspirin removes the stains for good.

Hand Painted Clothing & Primary Colored Coach Purses

I spent the morning updating the shop with a grouping of 70's hand painted cuties by Katie Denton Originals of Cape Coral, Florida. I found these recently at an estate sale of a lady who was quite the dresser. She was a snow bird too, which explains the fantastic Florida fashions.

The trio consists of a kelly green wrap style sundress that is embellished with seagulls in honor of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a sunny yellow wrap skirt with the cutest pair of owls both front & back, and last but definitely not least, a sky blue wrap skirt with a magnificent blue marlin sport fish on each side.

After lunch I put up a pair of vintage Coach purses in primary colors to round out the day before hitting the garden to tackle some nasty weeds.

I have a few more surprises up my sleeve to round out a week focused on the 70's & 80's, groovin' to the summer of love tunes as the infamous hair bands are coming into their own....stay tuned!

My Guilty Pleasure

I can't wait to sit down and read my newest purchase, a fantastic vintage Motion Picture magazine. It is my guilty pleasure just as it was for many of the magazine's original readers. It is dated June, 1951. The front cover sports the lovely starlet, Janet Leigh. If I come across any juicy gossip I will be sure to let you know.

The Sweetest Treasure-A Vintage Case Full Of Cosmetics

I have had this treasure for quite awhile but I was content to enjoy its uniqueness without delving into its history too much. I am in the process of redoing my photography studio/sewing room/packaging room/display room....you get the idea...I need to clear out some room! This sweet vintage cosmetics case needs to find a new home with someone who will love it and cherish it for the rare treasure it is.

From my research I found that the Beauty Counselor company originated in Grosse Pointe, Michigan which makes perfect sense as I am in Michigan too, in fact the beauty counselor representative whose labels are on the bottles in the case was from the same small town where I live now.

The case is round with one flat side done in a dark brown faux crocodile/alligator material. The case is about 8.5" high x 5" wide not including the handle & it has a zipper opening. The soft shell pink interior comes complete with most of the original contents. There are 4 clear glass bottles with pink plastic tops that fit securely on the top with pink elastic compartments. Above them are slots for the original comb and mirror. In the bottom of the case are 4 milk glass jars with pink lids and content labels that snuggle securely in their elastic holders. The jars of face powder, foundation, etc. also have labels with the beauty counselors name, address and phone number. One last item is a lipstick sized case that is a deodorant stick with a push up tab like lipsticks of the day, how would you apply deodorant in a skinny, narrow lipstick sized container?

I could say that I was abducted by aliens...but that is a lie...at least I think it is...it would at least, be a lame excuse for not posting in ever so long. I have had no strange dreams or marks on my body to suggest I was abducted so I guess that I will just fess up to being a super lazy blogger.

I will do my best to keep up with my postings and not lapse into nothingness.....although I am a very imperfect person so don't hold your breath or anything, ok?

This Weeks Estate Sale Treasures

This post is going to be a big tease because I have no pictures of my newest finds. It was overcast and raining all day so picture taking was impossible.

I found some wonderful pieces at the first stop of the day....two formal 50's gowns...five late 40's to early 50's dresses including one that is pink & black...several coats, a nice selection of purses, hats and a sexy 50's swimsuit!

On my second stop the only thing I got was one dress...it is a beautiful aqua blue color fitted sheath, it would look right at home on the set of Mad Men .

The third stop was a treasure trove of vintage sewing patterns, mostly uncut from the 1950's & 1960's.
I also found a great brown faux alligator round suitcase style beauty case filled with sample bottles from Beauty Counselor. Each pink-topped glass bottle fits into its personal built-in pink elastic niche, just what every vintage loving gal needs!

Enough of the tease....if the sun pops out tomorrow I'll snap some pictures of my fabulous haul.

Back To Work...Back To School...

I have been remiss in my blogging duties and listing of new fall inventory at my store...Club Vintage.
I have been busy with last minute appointments...the doctor, the dentist,yuck!

I know that for some of you it is still blistering hot...middle of a heat wave....but for me, here in Michigan....fall is in the air.
It has not been a hot summer here by any means....but now in the early mornings you can smell fall, feel the crispness....plus the calendar is almost ready to turn to the September page.
When you work at a school, as I have for many years, the September page of the calendar marks the end of your lazy summer days....the tingles begin about a fresh, new year and all of the ups and downs it will bring....the turning of a page signals the circle to begin its spin....school time.

Getting Ready For Fall

Fall is one of my favorite seasons....for clothes....NOT the colder weather...no never that, I hate the cold...snow...slush....all of that.....but the clothes are fabulous.

I love warm and cozy sweaters, especially cashmere. I also have a thing for plaid wool skirts, shirts, and jackets.

Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, I can't keep all of my vintage treasures so I am starting to pull pieces from my collection to offer in my Etsy store...Club Vintage.

Anniversary Celebration!

Today is my wedding anniversary.....I can't believe it! The clothes we wore that day are now vintage.....I guess we must be vintage too. How does that happen? All of a sudden we are what the new generation refers to as..... old, over the hill, out of touch.

We were hippies who absolutely loved rock & roll, ....now my favorite music is played on the local OLDIES station!

And we said we would never get old......oh well....here's wishing peace & long lasting love to all.....it has been a REAL........TRIP!

Reminders of the Past

I have been busy lately....so I am behind on my blogging....and a few other things like cleaning the house but it doesn't mind waiting for me....or if it does...TOO Bad!

We have finally found summer....or if not summer, the yard has become a sauna complete with a steam bath rising from foliage everywhere. Of course with the increased temps it also has rained....up to five inches in a few days...no matter....life is good and so are the garden goodies.

To keep cool we decided to spend a few hours shopping. Mr. Club Vintage and I set out stopping first at an estate sale that advertised lots of vintage clothes. It was pouring rain as we got out of the car....umbrellas were seen all around....as I went in the door to the house the smell of cigarette smoke assaulted my nose....made ten times worse by the thick humid air. I wanted to turn back around and leave but the Mr. said he wanted to look around. So, I picked up a few washable items....a wicker plant stand to use outside in the garden and a couple of metal buckets that will be turned into containers for my herbs...again outside at least long enough for the smell to dissipate....I hope. I wanted to purchase some sewing patterns but I was afraid that I would never be able to remove the smell so I left them behind.

This talk of the cigarettes reminds me of how much things have changed.....when I was younger I seem to recall that everyone smoked...and they smoked everywhere! They smoked in stores....yes, stores...even while grocery shopping. I remember that clearly because my parents owned a grocery store when I was a kid and my job was to sweep up the butts they crushed on the floor as they filled their baskets with food....yuck!!!!!
They smoked in offices, businesses, planes, their homes and cars...everywhere!

My concern with all this smoking is that if you love vintage items and add them to your wardrobe and home decor the chances are very good, around 100%, that they were part of the smoking landscape....and will have the remnants of their previous life clinging to them even now. You can air them out, wash them numerous times and use all the deodorizing tricks such as cleaning them with white vinegar, baking soda, kitty litter, and even newspapers. But try as you might....the smell will rear its ugly head on occasions such as a humid day, or if you package an item up for shipping off to a new owner.....things that were odorless thanks to your diligent cleaning efforts.....harken back to their previous exposures.

This is not to say that we can't enjoy these treasures from the past....it just reminds us that they did have a previous life....they were not always in a pristine environment....we just have to accept them for what they are....beautiful reminders of our past history....history that includes the fact that smoking was everywhere.
If you want to share your life with vintage things from bygone days then you need to love them even when they show the uglier side of their past....I for one think they are worth it!

The Blouses Are Coming....The Blouses Are Coming....

As the title suggests "the blouses ARE coming" to my store, ClubVintage at Etsy.

I have been organizing my personal vintage clothing collection and have proven for a fact that there has been reproduction going on amongst the blouses.
I am sure that what once was possibly 30 blouses.... is now 60 or more.
This is a major problem.....I was not informed of the expansion in the population....how rude.

I refuse to harbor any sneaky reproducing blouses and their cousins the vintage shirt any longer. If you promise not to tell .....I will share with you my plan to rid myself of these traitors.....I will be putting them up for sale in my store!

I have already started to secretly divest the goods....if you are interested in owning any of these special blouses or shirts help yourself....just mind my warning....keep them separated.
If you fail to heed my advise.....I accept no responsibility for their reproductive habits!

Estate Sale....Oh MY

I got up real early again today for an estate sale. This one advertised that the whole house was vintage...vintage...vintage! How could I resist?

I waited an hour and a half after arriving early to get my number for the sale to begin. The estate sale company owner was being rude & testy to his workers....as usual....it makes me feel like I'm hearing someone scrape their nails across a chalkboard when I hear him talk to them like that. It makes me wish I had stayed home, honestly....

When they finally started to let us in...(late, of course)....I hurried up the stairs to the bedroom closets...the holder of the treasures. I was up there all alone for quite awhile. Finally I made a few selections and made my way back downstairs to the main floor that was crawling with people. Wow, this was a crazy circus....I had to get out of there! I stood in line, paid for my beautiful vintage dresses and quickly hurried to my car.

I think I'll stay home next weekend...I may love estate sales....but I really hate the circus.

Street Blooms...a.k.a. My Flowers

I just have to share my lilies...these bulbs were a purchase from a school fundraiser my oldest grandson sold several years ago. Due to the cold and snowy Michigan winter they were supposed to be dug up and replanted every year or they would die.....do these perfect pink beauties look dead to you?

I know that I just got lucky that they aren't dead...that my laziness did not kill them.....maybe it is because they are securely nestled up next to my front porch....with a nearly 100 year old house...I'm sure the escaping heat that I pay dearly for has nurtured them....warmed their sweet feet....well at least my hard earned dollars went to a good cause.....:)

While I was out I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures of the other flowers that surround my front porch...enjoy!

P.S. See........even the bugs think they are irresistible.

The Allure Of The Suit

I love suits and even just suit jackets alone who have lost their mates through the passage of years....especially 40's suits with nipped waists and exquisite design details...they are one of my favorite finds.

I find that they are one of the easiest things to mix in with a modern wardrobe. Add a jacket with your skinny blue jeans, or over a sundress in the overly air-conditioned world of modern buildings.

I also like to pair a pencil skirt with a perfectly tailored blouse or a pleated plaid skirt with a fitted tee-shirt....you're set to go once you add fab shoes, a bag and your favorite jewelry.

I think that if you want to add a shot of versatility to your fall wardrobe you should look for a vintage suit.

Today's Estate Sale Treasures

I just got back from an estate sale with some fabulous treasures.

I really enjoy the anticipation...what will I find, will they have a "must have"....I also enjoy sitting in the car reading my current book (The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger)while I wait for the sale to begin.
For those of you who are not familiar with estate sales they give out numbers at a certain time, usually at 8am with the sale not set to start until 9am. Lots of people leave to go get coffee or some breakfast but not me, I don't drink coffee and I hate to lose my prime parking space. I just bring green tea in my thermos and my current book and I sit and wait. I also people watch...I have a few fellow patrons that I visit with...we talk about what we are looking for and what other sales are not to be missed that day while we wait the last few minutes before the opening rush to get inside to see the treasures.

Today's sale had lots of very old collectibles from a former business the family owned...but that is not why I waited....no I was looking for the vintage clothes that they advertised. I got in with the first group....I went straight to the clothes.....hummmmmm. I quickly found a rack of coats, my eyes were drawn to a beautiful leather coat in a soft butterscotch color...it had turn lock closures and huge front pockets.....I peeked inside and found just what I knew would be there....Bonnie Cashin!

As I continued to look with the coat draped over my arm I found a rack of shoes and purses. I reached out and touched a soft leather purse, picked it up and its label read Mark Cross...it was a touch lighter than the coat but went together wonderfully with it....another must have.

I continued on and looked at the jewelry picking up a confetti lucite bracelet. I also found a cute pair of Siamese cat salt and pepper shakers with turquoise rhinestone collars....perfect for my kitchen...they joined my new found treasures.

Next I found a set of eight atomic glasses....too cute.....they join my growing stash.

I checked out and smiled all the way to my car....I love estate sales!

Got The Rainy Day Blues

This has been the strangest summer. If you can even call it summer. I watch the national weather and they keep talking about heat waves, record breaking temperatures....but that is not the weather outside my front door, no way.

We...here in Michigan...have been having a very cool, more like early spring, summer. The weather people say the jet stream is not in its usual place, the dip is too low....yada,yada,yada. It is just plain chilly most days with lots and lots of RAIN!

Today is one of those days....rainy, foggy, cold....with more of the exact same day to follow in the forecast for the rest of the week. So, I have been perusing the offerings of Vintage Fashion Guild members over at ETSY....blue things to cheer up my blue mood....hope they cheer you up too!

The Visitor

I know that the "visitor" has nothing to do with vintage clothing...or accessories...or anything vintage at all...but...I can't help it the story must be told.

The "visitor" arrived early Friday morning, very early. I woke up to a pair of eyes staring at me, my son was telling me something came in his window....oh no, this doesn't sound good...not good at all.
I dragged myself out of bed to see just what all the commotion was about...after all it was still dark out for crying out loud!

I came downstairs to find a pure white cat sitting in the middle of my kitchen with its big eyes looking straight at me...one blue eye & one yellow eye...both staring me down. Mr. Club Vintage gave me the sheepish grin, the one that says I couldn't help it....sure buddy.
Did this come in the window? No, I let it in the front door....great, well now it can leave...it might have fleas...be sick....we agreed, no more pets, remember?
Reluctantly the Mr. scooted the "visitor" out the door.

The Mr. and darling son went off to their jobs and I got busy at home. Later we all went bowling and brought our granddaughter home afterwards. What do I see on the back porch but the "visitor" waiting patiently for our return. Mr. Club Vintage scrounged around for something to feed to the "visitor" as he must be hungry. Soon the "visitor was safely ensconced in the living room being treated to as much love and attention as my granddaughter and grandpa could give, well it was very sweet but my resolve was still strong....the "visitor" must leave.

Next morning there was the "visitor" sitting on the porch with a gift for Mr. Club Vintage....a mole....the scourge of the lawn....the bane of his existence....Mr. was firmly in love!
Soon he took a trip to the store....his bag overflowed with goodies upon his return....you guessed it....cat food, flea collar and treats.
Oh, my, this was getting into dangerous territory. I told him it must belong to someone.....it was too clean, well feed and friendly to be a stray. I quickly volunteered to check the lost & found ads...someone must be missing their baby. I found nothing listed for a white cat with two different colored eyes.
Well, it can stay on the porch another night but not in the house, I'll check again tomorrow.

The next morning there sat the "visitor" with two more gifts for Mr. Club Vintage. He lavished praise on the "visitor" over and over....how great he was...what a hunter...what a good boy! I thawed a little but still I thought the "wonderful hunter" should keep to the happy hunting ground...outside.

Next morning there sat the "visitor" lazing about in the porch chair....appearing quite satisfied & comfortable. I caught myself talking to the "visitor" as I went in and out of the house....he followed me out to the garden and lay sunning himself while I weeded, it was rather nice....shhhh...did I say that?

As evening rolled around I went out to water my plants that surround the front porch....the "visitor" came and sat watching me as I made my rounds with the watering can. When I was done he followed me into the house...slid right in between my feet. He stretched out on the back of the sofa and went to sleep. I didn't have the heart to wake him....but I did snap a few pictures....he was so cute....maybe......

As I was contemplating the whole idea a knock sounded on the front door. I answered the door and there stood a man, a stranger to me....he was asking if we had found a white cat....a white cat with two different colored eyes. He said his nephew had been walking by and saw one on the porch so he thought he would see if it was his cat. Well, Mr. Club Vintage and I said yes, he's here....we'll get him for you. We handed him over to his owner along with the bag of food and treats. Off they went, walking down the sidewalk toward home which was a few blocks away.

As we shut the door for the night I think both of us were both happy and sad at the same time. The "visitor" had found his owner...but we will miss the "visitor."

Woke up this morning and went outside ....there sat the "visitor".....

Butterflies Are Free To Fly....Fly Away...Fly Away

I have had butterflies on my mind for days.....ever since a huge vibrant orange & yellow monarch practically landed on my hand a few weeks ago when I got out of the car in my driveway after going to the grocery store.

I was reminded about butterflies again yesterday as I listed a beautiful 1950's sheer dotted swiss dress. The fabric sports the gentle beauties done in soft shades of pink, purple and aqua, it made me smile.

Butterfies were my mom's favorite creatures....she even has them carved into her headstone....they are one of my favorites too....thanks to mom....when one of them flits through my flower gardens I always say, "Hi Mom!"

Check Us Out......We Have A New Look!

I know the mechanics of how to do a banner, an avatar and a few other "graphics" on the computer but.....after long hours...and I do mean hours.....the end result is very amateurish to say the least.
I knew it was way past time to upgrade my Etsy store.......
Club Vintage and my blog with a new, professional look.

I starting searching on Etsy about three weeks ago. I wanted something atomic, or mid-century modern or with that certain retro look that would represent my idea of what exactly Club Vintage means.

I want Club Vintage to be a comfortable, relaxing place you go to do some shopping when you want to find unique well-made fashions and more from a time in America that prided itself on quality products & customer service.

I began searching Etsy for just the right image.
I searched and searched....hearted lots of maybes....and a few..... if only the color was different or the look or....you know the story.

After a couple of weeks I found exactly what I was looking for...in my favorite 1950's colors....pink & aqua.
I quickly showed Mr. Club Vintage...even though he doesn't blog, do the washing or really take part in day to day operations of the store....he has opinions and plenty of them. Low and behold he didn't hate it, yeah!

I quickly hit the BUY button....I was so happy to find the holy grail (mine at least) that I didn't want to take any chances I would lose out on perfection.

Right away, I mean instantly, I got an email from the store owner Joan, she runs BitsyCreations on Etsy along with BitsyCreations.com.

Joan is a wonderful, creative graphic artist. She worked with me to get everything just right and she went out of her way to help me set up the banner for my blog including giving me excellent instructions on how to put my new background & banner into blogger.....Joan, you are the best!!!!!!

Joan is also working on several ads for me....you will soon find at least one of them on the Shop Vintage Fashion Guild Members link of the VFG.

Pattern Stash....Destashing

Just a quick post today as I am knee deep in my pattern stash.....only slightly exaggerating about the knee deep part.

I have always loved patterns and they are part of my memories for as long as I can remember.

My mom was an excellent seamstress....she made all of our clothes, including my favorite doll, Chatty Cathy, who magically had a matching dress whenever I got a new one.

I was taught to sew when I was about seven with small projects for 4-H exhibits such as aprons and dish towels. By the time I was ten I was winning blue ribbons with my dresses and coats at the county fair each year.

I quit sewing when I was in high school.....I began to think it wasn't cool....and I found vintage clothing & thrift stores so much more interesting......but this only fed my addiction to buying patterns. Even though I wasn't sewing I was buying patterns.....everywhere I went.

Happy Birthday America

Yes, I know I'm late with the Happy Birthday wishes.....but I was so busy cooking up a storm for a houseful of guests that I just couldn't find the time to make birthday wishes in a timely manner.

One of the nicest things about our nearly 100 year old house's location in the heart of smalltown USA is that every 4th of July the city has a large fireworks display.......directly behind our house.....right in my backyard!

This occasion always calls for us to have the biggest cookout of the year. After numerous games of horseshoes, lots of laughter and stuffed bellies for all....the countdown to showtime begins. As dusk falls many more friends and friends of friends and sometimes strangers show up to enjoy the splendor.

We had beautiful weather last evening, not too many mosquitoes and lots of ohhs and ahhs. It was a wonderful party and a perfect way to say Happy Birthday America.

Well, I finally did it!

I set up my own blog!

I will be sharing my love of vintage clothing and accessories along with other interesting tidbits that cross my path......or random thoughts & ideas......or.......just check back often as you never know what you will find.

It is a cold, rainy day....yuck...it is July 2nd for heavens sake.....where is the summer.....the sun? I guess I will have to make my own sunshine......or just be happy that my garden is green, growing and loves the rain.

I'll just get out my favorite 40's vintage umbrella when I go out and about.
The best part of having a huge vintage collection is always having the perfect accessory!
